But it’s super fun! I loved it and am looking forward to returning!
Staff was excellent. Even offered tools for minor repairs. Rental full face helmets and leg protection.
The only negative is the truck ride up. You have to hold onto your bike while going up. A trailer set up would be nicer.
To say that there aren’t any green trails is an understatement. If you’re coming from the background of trail riding, like myself, I would recommend that you be able to handle steep, but rollable drops and be able to ride berms.
Great trails and even better staff/owners. If I had the time I'd be there more
Bailey is an epic place with epic trails. The best destination for downhill mountain biking in NC for sure. Fair warning though, there are no green trails here, so if it's your first time, be sure to warm up and get a feel for the dirt. But once you get to shredding, you're going to have a gnarly time.
I hope to ride these trails at least once a month over the good weather months.
Banks and turnbacks were well kept.
Blue trails is all I rode. They varied from easy blue to near black/blue. The blue DH offered a taste of black level grade decent.
It is such a different experience than trail riding. The trails are machine cut and are super smooth. There is little to no peddling required. In fact, the son of the owners didn’t even have a chain on his bike.
Jumps were properly placed and with room to go around if you wanted. Jump also had plenty of room for landing and setting up for the next maneuver.
Really nice flow. The people who run it are super nice and helpful. I had an issue with a bike rental and they were on right away and got me riding again as soon as possible. Just a low key place where everyone there is there to ride and have a good time.
The park was at capacity the day I went. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a ride back up the mountain. Each trail takes 5-10 minutes to ride. It’s steep. Like real steep.
Bike: you could use your XC bike with 3" of suspension, IF your a good rider and don't try full speed runs. We had a hard tail guy try the easy blue and on his second run he crashed hard. I rode my Specialized Stumpjumper 27.5+ with only 135mm rear suspension. Worked fine for me, though I don't run wide open speeds.
So I’m a trail rider, not a DH rider. In all honesty, I was in a little over my head...but that being said, the owners were so nice and supportive. Everyone there was super friendly.
